Dundee Soup is a social event which gives micro grants to local community based projects to make ideas a reality, over a simple supper dinner. The third Dundee Soup will take place on Thursday 3rd May from 6pm – 8.30pm, at Lifegate. Lifegate Tea Dance – who provide a place for older people to gather and socialise and were the first winner of Dundee Soup’s micro community grant in April 2017 – will be hosting the event and providing the soup this time round.
For a suggested donation of £5, attendees will receive a simple soup supper and hear up to four short presentations from local people running community projects. These can range from art, urban agriculture, social justice, social entrepreneurs, education, technology and much more. At the end of the night, everyone votes on their preferred project, the ballots are counted and winner goes home with ALL of the money raised on the night to develop their project! Winners come back to a future Dundee Soup dinner to report on their project’s progress.
Maureen Phillip, Tayside Director of charity PAMIS (Promoting A More Inclusive Society) which supports people with profound and multiple learning disabilities spoke of the benefits of pitching at the latest Dundee Soup. “It was a fabulous event, great fun and raised greater awareness of The PAMIS Inclusive Learning Journey project. We are pleased to say that three schools in Dundee are now signed up to the project and the Unicorn is our first inclusive learning partner. Thanks to the Dundee Soup for forging links between people.”
Janice Knight who runs Coats n Quilts, an organisation which provides coats and quilts to people in need, found Dundee Soup to be an opportunity to find new supporters of her cause. “I loved Soup. It gave me the experience of standing up and talking about my project had lots of support and encouragement from Kirsty and staff at the Circle everyone was really nice and I also came away with contacts in moving forward for coats ‘n’ quilts”
